Keeping Your Creativity Alive

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jesse Thompson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jesse below.

Jesse, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

Keeping my creativity alive starts with staying connected to my purpose and faith. First and foremost, I believe God is the ultimate Creator, and the gifts, talents, and abilities I have come from Him. My creativity is not something I take credit for on my own, it’s a blessing that God has entrusted to me, and He continually provides the inspiration, wisdom, and opportunities to use it. Through prayer, faith, and staying grounded in my relationship with God, I’m able to remain creative and focused on my mission.

For me, creativity isn’t just about making music, it’s about telling stories, inspiring people, and creating meaningful experiences through every platform I use. I stay creative by constantly learning, exploring new ideas, listening to different genres of music, and paying attention to what’s happening in the world around me.

I also make it a point to step outside of my comfort zone and challenge myself with new projects, whether that’s producing music, hosting radio shows, conducting interviews, creating content, or developing new business ideas for my brand. Every interaction and experience can spark inspiration if you’re open to it.

Most importantly, I remind myself why I started. My passion for music, media, and community engagement fuels my creativity, but I recognize that the source of that creativity comes from God. When I focus on serving others, sharing authentic stories, and making a positive impact, the ideas continue to flow naturally. Creativity stays alive when it’s connected to faith, purpose, and a desire to make a difference, and that’s what drives me every day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Absolutely. Being a recording artist is a major part of your identity and brand, so it should be featured prominently rather than implied among the other roles.

Here’s a revised version that naturally incorporates your work as a recording artist:

My name is Jesse “JTJazz” Thompson, and I am a recording artist, multimedia professional, radio personality, music producer, entrepreneur, and community-focused creative who is passionate about using music, media, and storytelling to inspire, educate, and connect people. Through my brand, I strive to create positive and meaningful content that not only entertains but also empowers others to pursue their goals and make a difference in their communities.

What excites me most about what I do is the opportunity to make an impact across multiple areas of the creative industry. As a recording artist, I enjoy creating music that reflects real-life experiences, inspires listeners, and leaves a lasting impression. Music has always been one of the most powerful ways for me to express myself, connect with others, and communicate messages that matter. Whether I’m writing, recording, performing, or producing, I see music as both an art form and a tool for positive influence.

Beyond my work as an artist, I also host radio programs, interview artists and community leaders, develop digital content, pursue music licensing opportunities, and build new business ventures. Every project gives me a chance to connect with people and create something that has lasting value. I enjoy bringing ideas to life and helping others share their stories because I believe everyone has a unique voice and message worth hearing.

At the heart of everything I do is my faith. I believe God has blessed me with creative gifts and opportunities, and I view my work as a way to serve others while honoring Him. My creativity comes from Him, and that perspective influences how I approach my projects, my business decisions, and the relationships I build along the way.

One of the areas I am especially passionate about is mentoring and investing in the next generation. Through youth-focused programs and community initiatives, I enjoy sharing knowledge and experiences that can help young people develop confidence, discover their talents, and explore opportunities in music, media, and entrepreneurship. Being able to encourage and guide young creatives as they pursue their own dreams is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.

Another exciting part of my journey is expanding into music licensing. I am actively creating and positioning music for opportunities in film, television, streaming platforms, commercials, podcasts, and other media outlets. Music licensing allows my work to reach audiences in new and meaningful ways while opening doors for creative collaboration across industries.

One of the things that makes my brand unique is its versatility. Rather than being confined to a single lane, JTJazz represents a blend of recording artistry, music production, media, broadcasting, entrepreneurship, music licensing, mentorship, and community engagement. My goal is to build platforms that create opportunities for collaboration, encourage positive conversations, and highlight talented individuals who deserve to be seen and heard.

Looking ahead, I’m continuing to expand my presence through music releases, radio broadcasting, digital media initiatives, licensing opportunities, mentoring programs, interviews, and strategic partnerships. I’m always exploring new ways to reach audiences, provide valuable content, and create experiences that bring people together. Readers can expect exciting developments as I continue growing the JTJazz brand and finding innovative ways to serve my audience through music, media, education, and community-focused initiatives.

Above all, I want people to know that my brand is built on faith, authenticity, purpose, and service. I believe success is measured not only by personal achievements but also by the lives we impact along the way. If my work can inspire someone to pursue their dreams, discover their gifts, or realize their potential, then I know I’m fulfilling the purpose God has placed on my life.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey, three qualities have had the greatest impact on my growth: faith, perseverance, and a commitment to continuous learning.

First, my faith in God has been the foundation of everything I do. There have been times when opportunities didn’t come as quickly as I hoped, plans didn’t work out the way I expected, or challenges seemed overwhelming. During those moments, my faith helped me stay focused on my purpose and trust that every experience was preparing me for something greater. I believe that understanding who you are and whose you are gives you the confidence to keep moving forward, even when the path isn’t always clear.

Second, perseverance has been essential. Success rarely happens overnight. Building a career in music, media, broadcasting, entrepreneurship, and community engagement requires patience and consistency. There have been many occasions where I had to keep working, creating, and improving even when there wasn’t immediate recognition or reward. The ability to remain committed to your vision and continue showing up every day is often what separates those who reach their goals from those who give up too soon.

Third, I would say a commitment to continuous learning has been invaluable. The industries I work in are constantly evolving, and I’ve learned that growth happens when you’re willing to remain a student. Whether it’s learning new technology, improving production skills, understanding business strategies, exploring music licensing opportunities, or developing leadership abilities, I’ve always tried to stay curious and open to learning. Every experience, conversation, success, and setback has something to teach us if we’re willing to pay attention.

For those who are early in their journey, my advice is simple: don’t rush the process. Focus on developing your skills, building meaningful relationships, and staying consistent in your efforts. Be willing to learn from mentors, ask questions, and embrace opportunities that help you grow. Most importantly, don’t compare your journey to someone else’s. Everyone’s path is different, and success looks different for each person.

I would also encourage people to discover their purpose and build from there. When your work is connected to something bigger than yourself, it’s easier to stay motivated during difficult seasons. Stay faithful, stay teachable, and stay persistent. The journey may take longer than you expect, but the lessons you learn along the way will often be just as valuable as the destination itself.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?

I believe there’s value in both approaches, but if I had to choose, I would say it’s important to become highly skilled in your strengths while also investing in yourself enough to become well-rounded. In today’s world, versatility can be one of your greatest assets.

Throughout my journey as a recording artist, music producer, entrepreneur, mentor, and multimedia professional, I’ve learned that opportunities often come from areas you never expected. If I had limited myself to only one skill set, I would have missed many of the doors that opened along the way. While music has always been one of my core strengths, I made a conscious decision to learn about content creation, audio production, business, marketing, leadership, and music licensing. Each new skill helped me expand my reach and create opportunities that complemented my primary passions.

There have been times when one area of my career was moving slower than another. Because I had invested in developing multiple skills, I was able to continue growing, serving others, and creating value through different avenues. Producing music strengthened my technical and creative abilities. Building business ventures taught me problem-solving and strategic thinking. Mentoring young people helped develop my leadership and communication skills. Exploring media and licensing opportunities opened doors I may not have discovered otherwise. Each experience contributed to the overall growth of my brand and purpose.

I also believe that investing in yourself is one of the best investments you can make. No one can take away the knowledge, skills, and experiences you gain. Whether it’s taking a class, attending a workshop, finding a mentor, reading books, earning certifications, or simply dedicating time to practice your craft, every investment in your personal development has the potential to create future opportunities.

That doesn’t mean you should abandon your strengths. In fact, your strengths are often where your greatest impact and purpose will be found. However, I think it’s important not to become so comfortable in one area that you’re unwilling to grow in others. Some of the skills that seem secondary today may become essential tomorrow.

My faith has also taught me the importance of stewardship. I believe God gives each of us talents and opportunities, and part of our responsibility is to develop those gifts to the fullest extent possible. Sometimes that means deepening our strengths, and other times it means stretching ourselves into unfamiliar areas so we can continue growing.

If I could offer one piece of advice, it would be to never stop learning. Be known for your strengths, but don’t be afraid to develop new skills that make you more adaptable, effective, and prepared for future opportunities. The more you invest in yourself, the more equipped you’ll be to navigate change, overcome challenges, and maximize the opportunities that come your way. In my experience, some of the greatest opportunities come when preparation, faith, and versatility meet at the right moment.
